News: SECBE Non-Executive Board member - Crispin Walker

SECBE is delighted to welcome Crispin Walker to its Board as a Non-Executive Director. Crispin is Director of Logistics (Infrastructure & Defence) at Turner and Townsend.

With a career spanning military logistics, major international infrastructure projects and construction strategy, Crispin brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives on how logistics can drive positive change across the built environment.

Crispin's career began as an apprentice site welder, working on excavator buckets and steel fixing before joining the British Army in 1984. Over the next 33 years, he built an exceptional career in the Royal Corps of Transport, later becoming part of the Royal Logistic Corps, serving in Germany, Norway, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Throughout his military service, Crispin led complex multi-national logistics operations in the Balkans, established the UK's in-country logistics capability in Afghanistan and played a key role within the Ministry of Defence, where he planned the logistics for the military security operation during the London 2012 Olympic Games and the UK's strategic withdrawal from Afghanistan. As Head of Army Logistics he had functional responsibility for more than 20,000 military and civilian personnel, directing logistics in the home base and around the world.

After leaving the Army in 2017, Crispin transitioned into the infrastructure and construction sector, where he has continued to apply his expertise to some of the world's most significant projects. One of his most notable roles was leading infrastructure handover and logistics for the new Muscat International Airport, the largest infrastructure project ever delivered in Oman, alongside major developments at Salalah and Duqm airports.

Since returning to the UK, Crispin has worked across a wide range of major infrastructure projects, specialising in construction logistics strategies and performance improvement. His experience has given him a unique view of both the strengths of the construction industry and the opportunities to improve how projects are delivered.

A passionate advocate for integrated logistics, Crispin believes logistics should be embedded much earlier in project planning. He sees it as one of the industry's greatest untapped opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, safety and overall project outcomes. He also established a graduate development programme at Jacobs to help develop the next generation of construction logistics specialists. Crispin is passionate about promoting the adoption of the CLOCS Standard to improve road safety for vulnerable road users and local communities on construction projects.

Reflecting on his appointment to the SECBE Board, Crispin is excited about the opportunity to contribute to SECBE's mission of creating a safer, more efficient and more sustainable built environment.

He is particularly keen to support innovation in logistics that can improve project delivery while reducing environmental impact and is committed to developing future talent through initiatives such as SECBE's Innovative Future Leaders Programme and CoTrain, a shared apprenticeship service.
